IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) is
one of the major and successful treatments for infertility when other methods
of assisted reproduction have failed. Infertility is the situation in which a
woman or man is not able to conceive their own child naturally.
Infertility increases in today’s
couples very rapidly and there are many reasons which give rise to it such as
women become more independent and career oriented, they get married after the
age of 30 and hectic life schedule all increases the chances of infertility in
women. On the other hand low sperm count and unhealthy sperm leads down the
chances of infertility in men as well. Due to the advancement in reproductive
technology and biological science, infertility can be now easily cured. There’s
a wide range of infertility treatments available like surrogacy, artificial
insemination, egg donation, embryo frozen, embryo donation, intrauterine
insemination (IUI), Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), donor
insemination, laparoscopy and fertility drugs.
IVF is the fertility treatments
in which eggs are removed from women ovaries and mixed with sperm in the
laboratory and when fertilization completes then the embryos are transplanted
again into the women’s uterus. This treatment is recommended to those women who
have damaged or blocked fallopian tubes, whose partner have minor problem with
his sperm and who are 40 years of age or more.
IVF is a step by step procedure
starting with the fertility drugs which help you in producing more and more
eggs as it will increase the chances of better pregnancy. With fertility drugs,
doctor prescribed some hormone injections for at least 12 days. Keep in mind
these drugs will have strong side-effects and doctor will closely monitor all
the activities to make sure the better results. When eggs are ready to be
retrieved, doctor will then removed the eggs from the ovaries and at the same
time fresh sample of semen is need to provide of the male partner. The eggs and
sperm are then combined in laboratory for further fertilization. When
fertilized egg become embryos and only the embryos that are predicted to have a
full set of chromosomes are selected and again transplanted to the uterus of
the woman. To reduce the chances of multiple pregnancies usually not more than
three embryos are transplanted and if there are any extras embryos then they
may be frozen for future use.
